Southern Railway has announced Onam Special Trains with eight services in each direction between Dr. MGR Chennai Central and Kollam to facilitate additional travel during the festive season. The special services are intended to help accommodate the expected increase in passenger demand, offering more travel options for people returning home to celebrate Onam with their families.

Train No. 06117 will operate as a bi-weekly express special from Dr. MGR Chennai Central to Kollam, departing at 23:50 hrs on 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29 August, and 3 and 5 September 2026 (Thursday and Saturday), reaching Kollam at 16:20 hrs the following day. Train No. 06118 will operate from Kollam to Dr. MGR Chennai Central, departing at 18:45 hrs on 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30 August, and 4 and 6 September 2026 (Friday and Sunday), arriving at Dr. MGR Chennai Central at 11:35 hrs the next day. Advance reservation for these special trains will open at 08:00 hrs on 11 July 2026 from the Southern Railway end.
