On the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, Central Railway celebrated the remarkable legacy of the legendary Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whose leadership, military expertise, and contributions to India’s cultural and historical heritage continue to inspire millions.
Shri Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager, Central Railway, paid heartfelt tributes to the great king at the CSMT heritage building. The event was marked by enthusiastic chants of "Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki Jay" as Shri Meena garlanded the bust of Shivaji Maharaj, paying homage to his enduring spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Meena emphasized, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was one of India’s greatest national heroes. He founded Hindavi Swaraj based on justice, morality, and tolerance. He was a benevolent, generous, and secular ruler. Renaming this heritage terminus to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus serves as a tribute to his dedication to safeguarding his people and his progressive leadership.”
The journey to honor Shivaji Maharaj began in 1996, when Victoria Terminus (VT) was renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. In 2017, it was further renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), a reflection of Maharashtra's deep admiration for the king’s role in shaping the region’s identity.
A significant milestone came on April 7, 2004, when CSMT was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1887, this architectural marvel continues to be a vital part of Mumbai’s railway network, serving millions of commuters daily.
The celebration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is a reminder of his courage, resilience, and selfless leadership. Central Railway staff, senior officers, and other dignitaries also participated in the event, honoring his contributions to India's rich history.
