In a significant development for rail passengers travelling between Mumbai and the Konkan region, Indian Railways has approved a new daily Express train service connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Sawantwadi Road. The new train is expected to improve accessibility across the Konkan corridor while offering passengers an additional daily travel option on one of Maharashtra's busiest railway routes.

The proposed service will operate as Train No. 15087 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus–Sawantwadi Road Express and Train No. 15088 Sawantwadi Road–Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Express. Covering a distance of around 510 kilometres, the train is aimed at enhancing connectivity for commuters, students, tourists, business travellers and local residents.

Extensive Coverage Across Konkan

The daily Express will provide commercial stoppages at several important stations along the Konkan Railway route, including Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Valivade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road.

The broad coverage is expected to improve accessibility for passengers across the Konkan belt while strengthening links between Mumbai and several key towns in coastal Maharashtra.

The introduction of the new daily service is expected to provide a major boost to tourism by offering convenient access to Konkan's renowned beaches, forts, temples and eco-tourism destinations.
