Railway Board Chairman Inspects Kazipet Rail Manufacturing Unit, Reviews Construction Progress

Shri Satish Kumar, Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, inspected the under-construction Kazipet Rail Manufacturing Unit (RMU) in Telangana to review the progress of the project for Indian Railways under the Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway.

During the visit, Satish Kumar inspected key facilities, including the Main Shed, Wheel Shop, Final Testing Shop and Paint Shop, and reviewed the status of ongoing construction. He also held discussions with State Government officials on the progress of the project.

The Kazipet RMU is being developed as a multi-purpose rolling stock manufacturing facility with the capability to produce Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMUs), coaches, trainsets and other modern rolling stock for Indian Railways. The unit will also undertake the maintenance and overhaul of modern railway rolling stock.

According to officials, the facility is being equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies, including robotic painting systems, modern material handling systems and state-of-the-art machinery, to enhance quality, productivity and operational efficiency.

Once commissioned, the Kazipet Rail Manufacturing Unit is expected to strengthen India's railway manufacturing ecosystem and complement the country's existing rolling stock production facilities.

The Railway Board Chairman was accompanied by Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway; Dr. R. Gopalakrishnan, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division; and other senior officials from Indian Railways.
