An Indian Rock baby Python was rescued from the Loco of Train no 12052 Madgaon-CSMT Janshatabdi Express o­n platform no 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus o­n 24.06.2026.

On 24.06.2026 Shri N K Parsoya, Loco Pilot of Loco no. 22936/SRC/CAB2/WAP4 of Train no. 12052 Madgaon-CSMT Janshatabdi Express, after arrival of train at CSMT PF no. 11 at 00:45 hrs noticed a baby python in CAB no.2 (working Mumbai end cab) and informed his reliever Loco Pilot, Shri Omprakash Ram

All concerned officials were also informed and soon Shri Abhishek Ashok Thavre, Honorary Animal Welfare Officer, Maharashtra State, rushed to the scene. Taking appropriate precautions, the baby python was safely rescued around 1:40 hrs ensuring that railway operations continued without disruption. It was later set free in its natural habitat.

The Indian Rock Python, found in India, is a non-venomous snake and a protected species under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of the food chain.

The current period marks the time when python eggs hatch and the young emerge. With the o­nset of the monsoon in Mumbai and across Maharashtra, wildlife often seeks shelter in human settlements or other seemingly safe locations. It is speculated that this python hatchling entered the railway engine seeking shelter or protection from the rain and was transported to the location in this manner.

Such incidents can occur during the monsoon or at any other time. In such situations, citizens should not panic or attempt to catch or kill the snake; instead, they should immediately contact the Forest Department or trained snake rescuers. It is essential to carry out rescues in a manner that ensures both wildlife conservation and human safety.

Central Railway commends the swift alertness of its locomotive crew and the timely assistance of the Animal Welfare Officer, which ensured a successful rescue with zero impact o­n train operations. This incident highlights Central Railway’s o­ngoing commitment to safety, quick crisis response, and the preservation of wildlife. Passengers and citizens are reminded to remain vigilant during the monsoon season and to promptly report any wildlife sightings to railway authorities or forest officials to ensure proper and safe handling.
