Advancing Railway Safety: RDSO and ARAI Conduct Full-Scale Crashworthiness Test of LHB Coaches

The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), in collaboration with ARAI, Pune, successfully conducted a full-scale crashworthiness test of LHB coaches at its dedicated crash test facility on 24 June 2026. The test involved one LSLRD coach and one LWSPP coach.

Conducted in accordance with the international standard EN 15227, the test aimed to validate the crashworthy design features of the coaches and generate critical data on coach behaviour during collisions.

The findings will help strengthen future railway coach designs, improve passenger safety, and support the development of safer rolling stock for Indian Railways. Such tests play an important role in validating crashworthy design features and generating engineering data to support the development of safer railway coaches.
