Malakpet Railway Station being Redeveloped with an Expenditure of Rs. 26.50 Crores under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

A major transformation is in progress for Indian Railways with up gradation of Railway stations o­n a massive scale, with a vision to provide World-class facilities to the passengers. Under the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” (ABSS), 40 Railway stations across Telangana are being redeveloped with an estimated cost of Rs 2,750 crores, to provide modern passenger amenities and convert them into growth centers for the regional population. The mission got a major boost when the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for stations redevelopment in the state of Telangana during August, 2023 and February, 2024. The list includes the major upgradation of Secunderabad Railway station works that has been taken up o­n large scale to meet the world class standards. Out of these, 3 railway stations viz., Begumpet, Warangal and Karimnagar have been inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister, while the works are in progress at the remaining stations.

The ABSS policy was formulated by the Ministry of Railways which is aimed to modernize Railway stations, envisaging development o­n a continuous basis with a long-term vision. The idea is based o­n implementation of various critical elements as per a master plan that caters to ever increasing needs and enhanced patronage of the Railway stations.

Malakpet Railway station

  • Malakpet Railway station falls under Hyderabad Division and is categorized as Suburban Grade-3 (SG-3).
  • This station falls in Kacheguda – Falaknuma suburban route and serves the passengers in and around Malakpet area.
  • This station also has stoppage of important express trains like Kacheguda – Kurnool Tungabhadra Express & Kacheguda – Guntur Express apart from Suburban MMTS services.           
  • The station is identified for redevelopment under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) with an approximate cost of Rs 26.5 crores.

Proposed Works

  • Improvements to circulating area.
  • Provision/relocation of parking sheds.
  • Provision of local arts, selfie point and signages.
  • Provision of entrance arches
  • Improvements to station facade o­n both entries.
  • Provision of 12m wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB).
  • Provision of cover over platforms.
  • Provision of 2 escalators and 2 lifts.
  • Improvements to platform surface. 
  • Landscaping.
  • Well lighting of station.
  • Metro Connectivity.
  • Provision of Train Information Boards.

Works taken up and Status

  • Construction of Commercial complex - Terrace Slab completed. Brick work in Ground floor and for modified booking office in 1st floor completed. Plumbing works and plastering works in progress.
  • Platform improvements - PF fencing wall work and duct work o­n PF completed.
  • Parking sheds - Foundation work completed.
  • 12 meter FOB - Girder launching, Gangway bottom sheeting and canopy completed. Slab reinforcement work in progress.
  • Toilet Facilities for Divyangjan - Brick work, plastering and plumbing completed. Finishing works in progress.
  • Cover over Platforms, Lifts and Escalators work will be taken up soon.
  • All the works are in progress simultaneously and are targeted to be completed by June, 2026.
