A Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was successfully organized at Central Hospital, North Central Railway (NCR), Prayagraj, on 26th April 2025. The event, held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., was conducted in collaboration with the AMA Blood Bank, Prayagraj, and received strong support from the Railway’s running staff. The camp aimed to raise awareness about the importance of safe blood and blood products, while honoring the selfless contributions of voluntary blood donors.
Dr. S. K. Handoo, the Medical Director of Central Hospital, inaugurated the camp and addressed the attendees, stressing the critical need for such initiatives, especially in a populous country like India, where many people live below the poverty line. He praised the hospital’s continued efforts in promoting social welfare and community health, emphasizing the importance of blood donations and the utility of blood components.
The response from the Railway’s running staff was overwhelming, with 40 units of blood successfully donated. This enthusiastic participation highlighted the altruistic spirit at the heart of voluntary blood donation, an act that saves lives and strengthens community bonds.
Dr. Handoo expressed his appreciation to several key contributors, including Dr. Usha S. P. Yadav, Additional Chief Health Director; Mr. David Navin Tewari, Chief Lab Superintendent; Shri Umesh Bharti, Laboratory Superintendent; Nursing Staff Smt. Modesta Topno, Smt. Sanju, Shri Jitender, and Mr. Vasu Deo Pandey, Chief Crew Controller, along with the dedicated team from AMA Blood Bank for their pivotal roles in the event’s success.
In closing, Dr. Handoo encouraged continued unity for future blood donation camps, stating, "Let us unite in this noble mission to ensure the success of future blood donation camps." This initiative underscores the North Central Railway family’s commitment to societal service, fostering a culture of care, empathy, and civic duty.
