Northern Railway registered significant achievements in train operations and passenger services during the financial year 2024-25, enhancing connectivity and capacity. A total of 7 new trains were introduced, including 2 Vande Bharat and 5 Express trains, while 6 trains (4 Express and 2 Passenger trains) were extended to cover more destinations. Additionally, the frequency of 3 trains was increased, providing passengers with more travel options.

To accommodate rising demand, the payload capacity of 4 Vande Bharat train sets was increased from 16 coaches to 20 coaches, while 1 set was upgraded from 8 coaches to 16 coaches. Northern Railway also made a significant leap in special train operations, running 13,658 special trains in 2024-25, marking a 204% increase from 4,487 in 2023-24. These included seasonal services catering to peak travel periods such as summer rush, Puja, Holi, and winter rush, with winter rush services increasing by 50.18% and Holi specials by 46.29%.

In response to the spiritual travel demands, Northern Railway efficiently operated 2,433 Kumbh Special trains between 01.01.2025 and 06.03.2025 to Prayag. Additionally, 142 Bharat Gaurav trains were run, promoting cultural and religious tourism. Efforts towards modernization saw 64 new coaches added to 25 train pairs, generating 9,662 additional trips, a 316% rise over the previous year. The railway also upgraded 9 train pairs from ICF (Integral Coach Factory) rakes to LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) rakes for improved safety and comfort. Furthermore, 37 train pairs were standardized, a 147% increase from last year, and 88 General Class coaches were attached to 41 train pairs, enhancing unreserved travel comfort.

These developments highlight Northern Railway’s commitment to passenger convenience, modernization, and improved rail operations, ensuring seamless and efficient travel experiences.
