Know Why Sh. Ashwini Vaishnaw Calls the Dedicated Freight Corridor ‘Jewel of Indian Railways’

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has described the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) as the "jewel of Indian Railways," emphasizing its transformative role in modernizing India’s logistics and rail infrastructure. Speaking on the 19th Foundation Day of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL), Vaishnaw highlighted the corridor's achievements and its potential for driving economic growth.

Revolutionizing Freight Logistics
The DFC has revolutionized freight transportation by introducing a more efficient system. Approximately 350 goods trains now operate on the corridor daily, significantly enhancing the speed and efficiency of cargo transport. Vaishnaw noted that the DFC has halved cargo transit times compared to traditional methods, ensuring faster delivery and greater reliability.

Lowering Logistics Costs
One of the corridor’s standout achievements is its ability to reduce logistics costs, a critical factor in enhancing India’s global competitiveness. The increased speed and reduced congestion on passenger routes have further solidified its value to the national economy.

Strategic Integration
Vaishnaw emphasized the need to fully integrate the DFC with Indian Railways’ broader network. This move is expected to maximize the utility and profitability of the corridor, making it a cornerstone of India’s infrastructural advancements.

A Milestone for Indian Railways
Beyond its operational benefits, the DFC serves as a symbol of Indian Railways' progress toward a modernized, efficient, and sustainable future. It reduces the load on traditional rail lines, supports environmental goals by lowering emissions, and sets a benchmark for large-scale infrastructure projects in India.
