Mr. Ashutosh Pant, General Manager of the Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Design Department today, undertaking an in-depth review of the technical activities, design development initiatives, and modern design processes currently underway within the department. During the inspection, while observing various sections, he issued necessary directives aimed at further strengthening quality, technical efficiency, and an innovation-driven work culture.

The General Manager observed the cab interior design model of WAP7 push-pull locomotive specially designed on computer through Unigraphics 3-D software. He evaluated the design to ensure it was ergonomic, modern, and crew-friendly—prioritizing the comfort, safety, and operational efficiency of the locomotive crew. He emphasized that the design of the locomotive cab should not be driven solely by technical considerations, but must also align with human-centric amenities to ensure a superior working environment for the crew.

During the inspection, the General Manager also reviewed the design work pertaining to the underframes of locomotives destined for export. To ensure structural integrity and adherence to global quality standards, he issued instructions to expedite the submission of the underframe design analysis and structural strength test data—specifically the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) reports—to the RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organisation), thereby ensuring the timely completion of the testing process.

Inspecting the Design Department's computer room, printing section, vendor development section, electrical section, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) room, General Manager Mr. Pant emphasized the need for the optimal utilization of modern technical resources, the systematic development of the workspace, and the promotion of digitization. He commended the department for the effective deployment of state-of-the-art software and design technologies in its operations.

On this occasion, he offered valuable suggestions for the development of a state-of-the-art design conference room within the department, placing strong emphasis on further bolstering technical deliberations, innovation, and a research-driven work methodology. During the inspection, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer Mr. Manish Kumar, Chief Design Engineer (Electrical) Mr. Anurag Kumar Gupta, Chief Design Engineer (Diesel) Mr. Praveen Kumar, Chief Design Engineer (Projects) Mr. Kaushlesh Singh, and Deputy General Manager Mr. Sagar were present, along with numerous other officers and employees of the Design Department.

Appreciating the officers and employees, General Manager Mr. Ashutosh Pant stated that BLW is successfully meeting the requirements of both Indian Railways and the global railway sector through modern technology, innovation-driven design, and high-quality standards. He expressed confidence that the Design Department would continue to play a pivotal role in taking BLW to new heights by developing advanced technical solutions in the future as well.
