In a significant step towards enhancing safety and improving rail-road mobility, Level Crossing No. 105/E between Rejinagar and Beldanga in Krishnanagar – Lalgola section of Sealdah Division has been permanently closed for road traffic on 07.02.2026 with the simultaneous commissioning of Limited Height Subway (LHS) No. 105.
The LHS has been constructed as a safe and efficient alternative to the manned level crossing, ensuring uninterrupted train operations while facilitating controlled road movement. The subway box had been successfully inserted in March 2025. However, the project encountered major engineering challenges, particularly due to a high water table in the area, which delayed the construction of the sump and associated civil works. Despite these constraints, Railway engineers executed the work with careful planning and technical precision to complete the project.
Closure of the level crossing and opening of the subway will substantially enhance safety by eliminating the risk of accidents at the crossing and reducing congestion in the section. The commissioning reflects Eastern Railway’s continued focus on modernizing infrastructure and prioritizing passenger and public safety.
