October is celebrated globally as National Cyber Security Awareness Month. In line with this, a special lecture on cyber security was organized at Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) under the theme "Cyber Awareness India."

This year's theme—"Cyber Awareness India"— determined by the Ministry of Railways and the National Security Council Secretariat of the Government of India—aims to make the country's digital infrastructure more secure and increase cyber security awareness among citizens and employees.

On this occasion, Mr. Mahesh Pandey, Senior Systems Analyst at the Indian Institute of Technology, BHU, delivered a lecture in the Technical Training Centre Auditorium of BLW on 30.10.2025. The lecture discussed important topics related to cyber security. He explained that in today's changing environment, digital technology offers efficiency, but data security remains a challenge. To address this, we must protect critical information infrastructure, adhere to cyber hygiene, disseminate cyber best practices, and encourage employees to practice safe online behavior. He specifically advised avoiding clicking on unwanted links. The primary objective was to educate people about safe digital use, cyber fraud, phishing, hacking, and to educate youth about cyber ethics and data security. He also emphasized the importance of creating strong passwords, never sharing OTPs and passwords, minimizing personal information on social media, and being cautious of phishing emails and calls. He also provided several examples to alert employees to cybercrime.

This initiative at BLW is an important step toward combating cyber threats and strengthening digital security. It aims to foster an understanding of cybersecurity in every officer and employee, achieving the goal of "Safe India - Prosperous India."

This program was organized under the direction of Mr. S.B. Patel, Chief Quality Assurance Manager and Chief Information Security Officer.

On this occasion, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer Mr. Sushil Kumar Srivastava also spoke about cyber crime and advised to develop the habit of being suspicious of unsolicited messages, calls, links, etc. Chief Electrical Engineer-Inspection Mr. Manoj Kumar Gupta, Chief Mechanical Engineer-Production and Marketing Mr. Sunil Kumar, Chief Design Engineer-Electrical Mr. Anurag Kumar Gupta, Chief Design Engineer-Diesel Mr. Praveen Kumar, Sr. EDPM Shri S.K.Singh, PRO Shri Rajesh Kumar, EDPM Shri Amit Sikdar and Surendra Kumar along with a large number of BLW officials and employees were present.
