Shri Uday Borwankar, the Director General of the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), has taken on the additional charge as the General Manager (GM) of North Eastern Railway, effective on, September 1, 2025.
Shri Borwanker has rendered meritorious Service of over 35 years in various challenging positions in Central Railway, Western Railway, South East Central Railway, West Central Railway, Railway Board and on deputation in Ministry of Mines and Maha Metro. He has worked on various challenging posts, such as Additional Divisional Manager/Nagpur, Executive Director in Railway Board, Head of O&M in Nagpur Metro, Divisional Railway Manager/Bhopal and as Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer in SEC Railway as well as Western Railway.
As Director General of RDSO from August 2024, he has been championing induction of innovative & modern technology in the Railways and leading important initiatives like Kavach, Vande Bharat trains, Hydrogen Train, ‘AI and Drone based technology’, DAS etc. After his schooling from Varanasi, he was selected by UPSC for the prestigious Special Class Railway Apprentices scheme in the year1985. After studying Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Jamalpur, he did his post-graduation (MBA) from Mumbai. He has been trained in Electronics at IIT Kharagpur, in Business Management at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad and Boccono School of Business, Milan as well as in Civil Engineering at University of Graz, Austria.
