Shri Vivek Kumar Gupta, a distinguished officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) from the 1988 batch, has taken over as the General Manager of Western Railway on Friday, 11th July 2025. Soon after assuming charge, Shri Gupta conducted an inspection of Churchgate and Marine Lines stations on 13th July and undertook a footplate inspection of the Churchgate–Marine Lines section. During the visit, he interacted with passengers and railway staff, reviewing various aspects such as safety protocols, train operations, passenger and staff amenities, and overall cleanliness.

Shri Gupta served as the Managing Director of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the agency responsible for implementing India’s first Bullet Train project. He also held the post of Principal Executive Director/Gati-Shakti at the Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, where he oversaw the integrated functioning of seven key departments including Civil, Electrical (RE), S&T, Traffic, Finance, Planning, and Economic Directorates, under the PM Gati-Shakti initiative. Shri Gupta has a vast and diverse experience in railway infrastructure, having served in prominent roles on both Western and Central Railways. His previous designations include Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), Chief Track Engineer, Chief Bridge Engineer, and Divisional Railway Manager (DRM). In these capacities, he led major infrastructure projects involving new line construction, gauge conversion, doubling, multi-tracking, bridge maintenance, and enhancement of traffic facilities.
