Eastern Railway once again appeals to all road users to exercise extreme caution and strictly follow safety norms at level crossing gates. In recent months, numerous safety violations have been reported, including instances where road vehicles forcibly crossed or damaged closed gates.

Many vehicles have been seen ignoring warning signals and recklessly colliding with gate barriers. Such actions not only endanger lives but also disrupt train schedules, cause infrastructure damage, and inconvenience thousands of passengers.

Legal Provisions (Railways Act, Section 160):

• Opening a closed gate by unauthorized persons: Punishable with up to 3 years of imprisonment.
• Breaking a closed gate or barrier: Punishable with up to 5 years of imprisonment.

From April 2024 to March 2025, 505 cases were registered under Section 160(2) for gate-breaking and related offences. As a result, 413 individuals were arrested for reckless driving and damage to railway property.

Eastern Railway urges all road users to:

• Stop at a safe distance when the gate begins to close.
• Stay alert to approaching trains.
• Never cross tracks when gates are closed or closing.

Public cooperation is essential to ensure safety and avoid tragic incidents and legal action. Eastern Railway continues its awareness campaigns to educate road users on level crossing safety rules.
