CRITICAL BRIDGE GIRDER REPLACEMENT COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY IN ASANSOL DIVISION

Howrah Division of Eastern Railway Promotes Cleanliness at Purbasthali and Pundooah Railway Stations

Eastern Railway continues its unwavering commitment to enhancing the safety and efficiency of train operations through timely infrastructure upgrades. In line with this, the Asansol Division has successfully completed the replacement of girders of the old Bridge No. 114A (originally constructed in 1946) on the Down Line between Siuri and Kunuri stations.

The replacement was executed on 13th April 2025 during a scheduled traffic and power block from 06:55 hrs to 14:15 hrs. The bridge comprises two spans of girders measuring 9.15 metres each and one span of 15.85 metres. The work was completed within the allotted block period with utmost precision and adherence to safety protocols.

In addition, a series of critical safety and maintenance works were also undertaken in the Andal (UDL) – Sainthia (SNT) section during this period, further strengthening track reliability and operational safety.

Key Highlights of Work Executed:

  • Track Upgradation at Bridge No. 05
  • Rail Destressing: 4.6 KM
  • Plain Track Tamping: 7.1 KM for improved ride quality
  • Deep Screening (DGS): 2.4 KM to enhance ballast support
  • Rail Replacement: 260 Track Metres
  • Glued Joint Replacement: 2 Nos.
  • SKV Welding: 27 Nos. for seamless rail connectivity
  • Fishplate Greasing: 80 Nos. to minimise wear and tear

Moreover, hard encroachments were successfully cleared at Ukhra Station, contributing to improved safety and smooth railway operations.

The entire operation was efficiently executed by the Engineering Department of Asansol Division with active support from all concerned departments. The timely and successful completion of this crucial infrastructure task stands as a testament to the technical capability, planning, and seamless coordination of the dedicated railway team.
