The Eastern Railway's Howrah Division took a proactive step towards promoting cleanliness and hygiene at Purbasthali and Pundooah railway stations and their surrounding areas through a comprehensive awareness drive conducted on 14.04.2025.

The initiative was led by the division's Environment and Housekeeping Management (EnHM) and Health Department, with the active participation of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local shopkeepers. The campaign aimed to raise awareness among passengers, vendors, and other rail users about the importance of responsible waste disposal, discouraging littering, and reinforcing the prohibition of spitting at railway premises and other public areas.

Special emphasis was laid on the pressing issue of plastic pollution. Officials educated travellers and railway users about the harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment and public health, urging a shift toward sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives. Railway users were encouraged to utilize the designated waste bins placed throughout the stations and to adopt practices such as using reusable bags, bottles, and containers.

These concerted efforts by the Howrah Division of Eastern Railway have not only improved the cleanliness of railway facilities but also played a pivotal role in instilling a sense of responsibility among passengers and staff towards maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards.
