A comprehensive cleanliness awareness campaign was successfully conducted at Bidhannagar Road station on 7th April 2025, with a focus on sensitizing passengers, vendors, and other railway users about the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic station environment. The initiative aimed to promote proper waste disposal practices, discourage littering, and reinforce the prohibition of spitting within and around the station premises.
The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation and coordination among various departments, including the Health Department, RPF personnel, booking staff, and Safaiwalas, all of whom played an active role in ensuring the event's effectiveness and outreach.
As part of the campaign, a detailed inspection of the station's facilities was undertaken. Officials and staff members interacted directly with passengers, vendors, and station employees, engaging them in meaningful conversations about cleanliness and hygiene. Particular emphasis was placed on the harmful effects of plastic waste on both the environment and public health.
To address this concern, the campaign promoted the reduction of plastic usage and encouraged the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives. Passengers were urged to dispose of waste responsibly using the designated bins placed across the station premises. Sustainable practices such as using reusable bags, bottles, and containers were also advocated.
In a unique gesture to foster a positive connection and encourage active participation, rose flowers were presented to passengers and vendors who were observed maintaining cleanliness or cooperating with the initiative.
The campaign not only addressed immediate sanitation concerns but also aimed to inspire a long-term behavioural shift in waste management and environmental responsibility among all stakeholders of the railway ecosystem.
