On the occasion of World Health Day 2025, B. R. Singh Hospital, Eastern Railway, organized a special awareness programme at its OPD complex, embracing this year’s theme — “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures” on 07.04.2025. The event was held in the presence of Dr. Subhashish Das, Medical Director, B. R. Singh Hospital; Dr. Kalpana Mandal, Chief Medical Superintendent, Sealdah; other Indian Railway Health Service (IRHS) doctors, hospital staff, and railway beneficiaries.
Dr. Mandira Banerjee, Additional Chief Medical Superintendent, Health & Family Welfare Department (H&FW), Sealdah, delivered the keynote address and highlighted the significance of the theme, emphasizing how a healthy start in life can lay the foundation for a better and brighter future.
A key session was conducted by Dr. Sayantan Saha, Sr. Divisional Medical Officer/IC, Pediatrics, who delivered an insightful talk on the “First 1000 Days of Life” and the fetal origin of adult diseases. He explained the concept of metabolic programming during fetal life and its long-term impact on an individual’s health. Dr. Saha further emphasized the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, timely vaccination, balanced nutrition for mothers and children, developing healthy habits in toddlers, and reducing screen time for children—vital aspects in nurturing healthy adults who are the future of the nation.
Adding to the awareness efforts, student nurses presented informative health talks using self-made charts and posters, which were well-received by attendees and helped reinforce the key messages of the day.
The event was thoughtfully organized by the Health & Family Welfare Department, Sealdah, as part of Eastern Railway’s holistic approach to disease prevention and health promotion. The programme was a great success, marked by the enthusiastic participation of all stakeholders and beneficiaries.
