The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Eastern Railway (SER) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of passengers and railway property. A key focus area is the protection of children and victims of human trafficking. SER’s RPF has launched significant initiatives like Operation Nanhe Farishte and Operation Anti-Human Trafficking Drive to address these concerns effectively.

Operation Nanhe Farishte is dedicated to rescuing children in need of care and protection across the railway network. It serves as a lifeline for children in precarious situations, including runaway or missing children. In 2024, up to October, SER’s RPF rescued 723 children, continuing its vital mission of safeguarding young lives. For example, on November 27, 2024, a minor boy, Golu (Shubhojeet), fleeing from home, was found traveling alone on the 12262 Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express. He was safely rescued at Tatanagar station by RPF personnel and handed over to the Childline team after completing all legal formalities. Such cases highlight the RPF’s dedication and effectiveness under this mission.

Similarly, Operation Anti-Human Trafficking Drive combats human trafficking by rescuing victims and apprehending traffickers. In 2024 (up to October), RPF rescued 138 trafficked individuals (boys and girls) and arrested 44 traffickers. In 2023, 14 individuals were rescued, and 4 traffickers were arrested. These actions showcase SER’s commitment to addressing one of society’s gravest challenges.

The RPF’s consistent efforts to secure children and victims of trafficking have raised awareness and encouraged action among various stakeholders. Both operations highlight the dedication of SER’s RPF in creating a safer environment within India’s vast railway network, ensuring that the railways remain a secure mode of transport for all, particularly for the vulnerable sections of society.
