Saleem Ahmad, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), has been entrusted with the additional charge of CMD of IRCON International Ltd for a period of one year, according to a Ministry of Railways order.

The appointment follows the retirement of incumbent IRCON CMD Hari Mohan Gupta, who superannuates on June 30. An order issued by the Ministry of Railways on June 23 confirmed the arrangement. As per the order, Ahmad will hold additional charge of IRCON for one year from the date he assumes office, or until a regular CMD is appointed, or until further orders whichever is earlier.

With the appointment, Ahmad becomes the head of two major railway public sector undertakings simultaneously. Officials said the move is intended to ensure continuity in IRCON's operations while the government identifies a permanent appointee.
