Indian Railways has successfully constructed and commissioned a waterproof pedestrian subway beneath seven operational railway lines near Bhiwandi Road station on the Panvel–Vasai Road section, without affecting train operations during execution.

The subway has been constructed using advanced hydraulic pushing techniques for the installation of four large precast reinforced concrete segments beneath live railway tracks. The project involved meticulous planning and execution under challenging operational conditions.

Specialized waterproofing measures, including multiple layers of sealing and protective membranes, have been incorporated to ensure long-term durability and protection against water ingress. The structure has also been designed to withstand heavy freight traffic, including Dedicated Freight Corridor loading standards.

The subway provides a safe and convenient all-weather crossing facility for pedestrians and two-wheelers. It is equipped with covered approaches, adequate lighting, ventilation, and proper drainage arrangements to enhance user comfort and safety.

The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the area while reducing unsafe heavy trespassing across railway tracks, thereby contributing to safer railway operations and improved public convenience.
