WR commissions Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Gangadhra

Western Railway has operationalized a new Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Gangadhra, marking a significant advancement in regional freight infrastructure. The terminal was commissioned by Shri Pradeep Kumar, General Manager of Western Railway, who also flagged off the first container train from the facility, signaling the start of operations.

Spread across more than 44,000 square meters and developed entirely on Western Railway land, the terminal is designed to enhance logistics efficiency, particularly for Surat’s key cement and textile industries. The facility is expected to streamline cargo handling and improve supply chain performance in the region.

By shifting a substantial portion of freight movement from road to rail, the project is set to reduce road congestion and lower environmental impact. Additionally, the diversion of heavy cargo to rail networks is expected to free up track capacity for faster and more efficient passenger train operations, contributing to an overall improvement in railway service delivery.
