Mr. Saleem Ahmad, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, New Delhi visited the Kolkata unit of RVNL on 18.02.2026 to review the various projects being executed by the RVNL in Kolkata area. As part of this review, CMD inspected the progress of on-going underground TBM tunnelling work. Tunnel boring work is being undertaken with the aid of two TBMs named as  “TBM DURGA” and “TBM DIVYA”.

Both the TBMs had started the burrowing work from St. Thomas Launching Shaft and are proceeding towards Victoria station. TBM DURGA has completed approximately 1100mts of tunnelling and TBM DIVYA has completed approximately 650mts of tunnelling.

CMD emphasized on safety and quality aspect of work as a priority. The newly constructed B.C.Roy market was also inspected.. CMD also reviewed the progress of the orange line metro work from Beliaghata to IT Centre. Various issues and challenges being faced was reviewed and discussed including the matters concerning those issues that are causing the delay of the execution of the project.

Mr. Ahmad also met Shri S. S. Mishra, General Manager, Metro Railway, Kolkata and discussed the project related matters. RVNL, Kolkata officers were present during the review.
