The redevelopment works are progressing at a fast pace and the project will be completed by December, 2026

Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of Coals and Mines, Govt of India inspected the progress of o­n-going redevelopment works at Secunderabad Railway station on 10thNovember, 2025. He was accompanied by Shri Satya Prakash, Additional General Manager, South Central Railway; Dr. R. Gopalakrishnan, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division; Shri Ranadheer Reddy, Chief Administrative Officer/Construction, SCR; Shri A. Sridhar, Chief Public Relations Officer, SCR and other senior officials.

The Hon’ble Minister visited the construction sites o­n both sides of the Station building and took a first-hand update o­n the progress of the developmental works. He also reviewed the safety measures being undertaken at the work sites.

Later, addressing the media personnel at the station, the Hon’ble Union Minister stated that Secunderabad Railway station was constructed during the British era and today it is o­ne of the most important stations in South India with a passenger footfall of 1.97 lakh per day and over 100 trains daily. To meet the needs of the modern day passengers, the station is being redeveloped with world-class passenger amenities and modern architecture at a cost of Rs. 714.73 crores, he stated. The Hon’ble Union Minister mentioned that the construction works have been taken up without causing interruption to signals, tracks or train services. He stated that despite the heavy rush of passengers during peak hours (around 23,000 passengers per hour), the redevelopment works are progressing at the fast pace without causing any inconvenience to the Rail users. He informed that the station is being redeveloped with global standards o­n par with airports and will be the centre of attraction in Hyderabad city.

Shri G. Kishan Reddy detailed o­n the salient features of the project viz.,  Double Storey Sky concourse o­n 3 Acres land with space for waiting hall with capacity to accommodate 3,000 passengers, along with cafeterias, restaurants, retail centres, recreational facilities; 26 lifts, 32 escalators and 2 travelators; 5000Kwp Solar plant; Advanced security systems, Sewage treatment plants with 5 lakh litres per day capacity; Rain water harvesting pits; Provision of Walkways connecting with Skyway of East & West Metro stations as well as bus stationetc., He informed that the works are being undertaken in a phased manner. He mentioned that the Multi-level car parking is expected to be completed this year, while the South Side block will be completed in the next 4 months. The works of North side building, platforms, cover over platforms is progressing swiftly, he said. The entire project is planned to be completed by December, 2026, he added.

The Hon’ble Minister said that the Station is being upgraded keeping in view the needs of the future and is expected to accommodate around 2.7 lakh passengers per day and 32,500 passenger per hour o­nce the work is completed.

Further, G. Kishan Reddy stated that Telangana State has been allocated a budget of Rs. 5,337 crore for the financial year 2025-26. He mentioned that in the last 10 years, 346 new Rail lines, 487 kms of Doubling, tripling, quadrupling have been commissioned in Telangana. A record of 1959 track kms has been electrified in ten years and 100% electrification has been completed in Telangana, he added. Likewise, 293 RuBs, 43 RoBs, 49 FoBs have been constructed in 10 years. He stated that 96% works have been completed at the new Komaravelli Railway station. He also mentioned that the MMTS Phase – II works at Yadadri will commence soon.

The Hon’ble Union Minister informed that 40 Railway stations in Telangana are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, out of which, Begumpet, Warangal and Karimnagar stations were recently inaugurated. He mentioned that Vande Bharat maintenance facilities are being established at Secunderabad and Kacheguda stations. He also informed that the ‘Centre for excellence’ is formed at IRISET/SC with an objective to fast-track development of Kavach and other modern signalling items. The Hon’ble Union Minister stated that the total cost of various o­ngoing Projects in Telangana State is – Rs. 42,219 crores.
