In a major passenger-friendly move, Indian Railways will soon introduce an online option allowing travelers to change the dates of their confirmed tickets. The new system, expected to be launched in January, was announced by Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw. Under the upcoming feature, passengers will be able to modify their travel date through the official booking platform without having to cancel and rebook tickets. However, confirmation for the new date will depend on seat availability, and any difference in fare will need to be paid by the passenger. Currently, travelers who wish to change their journey dates are required to cancel existing tickets and purchase new ones, often leading to additional charges. The new mechanism is designed to make travel planning more flexible and reduce the inconvenience faced by passengers.
