Union Minister for Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Minister of State for Railways, Shri V. Somanna, offered floral tributes at the statue of Jagajyothi Shri Basaveshwara at Prerana Sthal, Parliament House, New Delhi, marking the 894th birth anniversary of the 12th-century saint and social reformer. This was the first time the occasion was observed at this venue, highlighting the Government's recognition of his enduring legacy.

Saint Basavanna championed equality, dignity of labour, and the principle of “work is worship.” His revolutionary thoughts laid the groundwork for democratic values such as social justice, gender equality, and casteless society. Through the Anubhav Mandapam, he established a model of participatory democracy centuries ago. His teachings continue to guide society toward inclusiveness, compassion, and human dignity.

The event was graced by the divine presence of Jagadguru Shri Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji of Kudalasangama Lingayat Panchamasali Peetha. Prominent attendees included Union Ministers Shri Kiren Rijiju and Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Ministers of State Smt. Shobha Karandlaje, Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu, and Shri Rajbhushan Choudhary. Members of Parliament such as Shri P.C. Gaddigoudar, Shri Tejasvi Surya, Rajya Sabha MPs Shri Iranna B. Kadadi, Shri Annasaheb Jolle, and Smt. Shashikala Jolle, along with other dignitaries and spiritual leaders, also paid their respects.

Saint Basavanna’s teachings remain a beacon for peace, harmony, and inclusive democracy—not only for Karnataka but for the entire nation and the world.
