At Pamban Bridge and Rameswaram, officials of the Railway, Coast Guard, State Administration, and Police conducted a rehearsal for the opening of the New Pamban Bridge on 29th March 2025. The old Pamban Bridge with the Scherzer Span also had to be opened to allow the Coast Guard vessel to pass.

The rehearsal included opening both the old and new Pamban Bridges to synchronize the timings. After allowing the Coast Guard ship to cross to the other side underneath the opened lift span of the new bridge, the lifted portion of the new bridge was lowered to measure the timing.

Once the lift span of the new bridge was lowered, a train was operated from the Pamban end to the Mandapam end and back across the Pamban Bridge to verify the timings.

The authorities concluded that the trials were successful.
