Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that the electronics component technology for the Hyperloop project will be developed at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. During his visit to the Hyperloop testing facility at IIT Madras Discovery Campus, the Minister witnessed a live demonstration. The 410-meter-long Hyperloop test tube at IIT Madras is Asia's longest such facility.
Speaking to journalists, the Minister highlighted that the entire Hyperloop testing system has been developed using indigenous technologies. He praised the young innovators behind the project and expressed confidence that India is on the brink of introducing Hyperloop transportation. The technology has already shown promising results in recent tests. The Railway Ministry has provided both financial support and technical assistance to the project.
ICF Chennai, known for its expertise in high-tech electronics, has previously developed large-scale systems for the Vande Bharat high-speed trains. The same skilled workforce will now work on the Hyperloop project. The Minister congratulated the IIT Chennai and Avishkar teams for their successful testing efforts.
Later, Minister Vaishnaw visited the IIT Chennai campus in Guindy, where he inspected the Open House 2025 exhibition organized by IIT's Center for Innovation. He interacted with students and young innovators, praising India’s growing leadership in data science, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors. He also shared that India currently has five operational semiconductor facilities, with the first homegrown semiconductor set to launch by the year’s end.
During the exhibition, the Minister presented prizes to innovation competition winners and encouraged them to continue creating new technologies. Dr. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Chennai, was also present at the event.
