Union Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw conferred the 69th Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar to 101 railway officials and 22 Shields to the best-performing zones in various categories on 21st December, 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The ceremony was graced by the Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board, Shri Satish Kumar, along with members of the Railway Board and General Managers of different Railway Zones and Production Units.

In his address, Shri Vaishnaw congratulated the awardees for their exceptional work and dedication. He highlighted the transformative progress Indian Railways has made over the past decade. He stressed the rapid pace of construction, including the Kashmir to Kanyakumari rail link and the ongoing North-East connectivity initiatives. The electrification efforts have accelerated, with a goal of achieving 100% electrification by 2025. He also mentioned the advancement of projects like Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, and freight corridors. Shri Vaishnaw emphasized the large-scale implementation of the Kavach safety system and the significant reduction in accidents (from 345 to 90). He praised the recruitment process, which successfully filled 1.5 lakh positions, and cleanliness initiatives that earned accolades, including recognition from opposition leaders. A new Super App is also in development to enhance the passenger experience.

Shri Vaishnaw called for tripling efforts in safety, maintenance, quality, and training to modernize infrastructure and offer world-class experiences to commuters. He highlighted innovations in maintenance, including industry collaborations, enhanced inspection systems, and improved training for officers and technicians. Safety remains a top priority, with zero derailment zones being incentivized with shields and financial rewards. He emphasized the integration of modern technology and structural changes to ensure sustainable progress and called for teamwork to uphold the Railways as a symbol of excellence, serving every citizen, especially the underprivileged.

In his welcome address, Shri Satish Kumar reaffirmed the commitment of Indian Railways to provide affordable services and world-class experiences. He emphasized excellence in speed, comfort, and safety and the importance of cultivating a culture of vigilance. He highlighted the transformation of stations under the Amrit Bharat Station project, which includes facilities like lifts, escalators, and Divyangjan-friendly infrastructure. Shri Kumar also praised the teamwork within Indian Railways and the leadership driving large-scale projects.

The Ati Vishisht Rail Puraskar is awarded annually to recognize the exceptional contributions of railway personnel and zones, celebrating the dedication, hard work, and outstanding achievements that contribute to the efficiency, safety, and passenger-friendliness of Indian Railways.
