Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a major road infrastructure project from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This transformative initiative will significantly enhance connectivity to Visakhapatnam Port Road in Andhra Pradesh, improving trade, logistics, and regional development.
Awarded under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), the project marks a crucial step in strengthening road infrastructure and port access. NHAI has recently issued the Letter of Award (LOA), with the project valued at ₹554.64 crore (excluding GST). The designated route extends from Sabbavaram bypass (Anakapalli – Anandapuram corridor) to Sheelanagar junction (NH-516C), ensuring seamless connectivity for freight and passenger movement.
The project involves the construction of a six-lane main road spanning 12.66 km, including a 1.596 km elevated section. It also features 22.26 km of service roads and 93 structures, including underpasses, culverts, minor bridges, road over bridges (ROB), and road under bridges (RUB). Designed with a greenfield alignment, the project aims to provide smooth and efficient access to Visakhapatnam Port.
Scheduled for completion within two years, the project also includes a 15-year operation and maintenance period. Once operational, it will enhance freight movement, reduce travel time, and decongest urban areas along the corridor, fostering economic growth by boosting trade, logistics, and industrial activity in the region.
Expressing his views on this achievement, RVNL Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), Shri Pradeep Gaur, stated that receiving this prestigious project from NHAI is a significant milestone in RVNL’s expansion into road infrastructure. He emphasized that the initiative will play a vital role in strengthening Visakhapatnam’s port connectivity and enhancing transportation efficiency in Andhra Pradesh. He reaffirmed RVNL’s commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure with innovation, sustainability, and excellence.
This project is set to redefine transportation standards in the region, reinforcing Visakhapatnam’s position as a key hub for seamless connectivity and economic progress.
