On 23rd September 2024, Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, successfully delivered the first metro trainset for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Phase IV. These 100% locally manufactured Metropolis trains, built at Alstom’s SriCity facility in Andhra Pradesh, are integrated with Grade of Automation (GOA) 4 driverless technology and designed for operational speeds of up to 85 kmph.

The trainsets are part of a larger order placed in November 2022, which includes 52 trainsets for DMRC’s expanding network, covering 64.67 km across three lines. The project aligns with India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, showcasing local production capabilities.

Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, expressed his enthusiasm for the milestone, highlighting the benefits for passengers in terms of convenience and sustainability. Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, underscored the significance of the partnership in driving Delhi’s urban development and improving quality of life.

With a project value of 312 million euros, Alstom will also maintain 13 trainsets for a period of 15 years, marking a significant shift in India’s metro segment by outsourcing maintenance to an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
