Ayush at Maha Kumbh: Over 1.21 lakh avail free consultation & medicines

At the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, the Ayush OPDs, clinics, stalls, and sessions have become major attractions for devotees, pilgrims, and visitors. The Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with the National Ayush Mission and Uttar Pradesh authorities, has set up a comprehensive healthcare initiative to offer free services to both domestic and international attendees. Over 1.21 lakh devotees have already benefited from these services.

A dedicated team of 80 doctors is working across 20 OPDs, offering 24x7 medical care for a range of common and chronic conditions. Foreign visitors are also actively engaging with the Ayush services, including consultations at the OPDs. In addition, daily therapeutic yoga sessions are conducted from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at designated camps in the Sangam area and Sector-8. These sessions are led by trainers from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), showcasing the growing global interest in Ayush practices.

The Ayush initiative also aims to educate participants about advancements in Ayush systems of medicine and the benefits of medicinal plants. The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) has set up a display of medicinal plants, providing expert advice on their health benefits and financial potential. Devotees are also receiving free saplings to encourage the cultivation of these plants.

Dr. Akhilesh Singh, Ayush nodal officer at the event, explained that the team’s work goes beyond treatment, focusing on educating people about the economic opportunities tied to medicinal plants. A significant portion of the beneficiaries are elderly, with 45% of service users belonging to this demographic. The team also distributes free medicines like immunity boosters and calcium tablets to support the elderly.

Raghunandan Prasad, a devotee from Sultanpur, shared his experience of recovering from a skin ailment through Ayush services, expressing his gratitude for the care provided.
